Russia is a beautiful country with a very big coastline
and many beautiful lakes, Oliver.
One of the greatest lakes in Russia is called Baikal. This is the deepest
and largest freshwater lake in the whole world. In summertime in Russia,
some kids go to the beach to play in the waves and build sandcastles.
Lots of kids go also to the mountains in the summer to play in the fresh air.
One of the most popular mountains in Russia is called the Caucasus Mountains.
There you can go hiking and you can have adventures in the forests.
Who do you know in your family who can tell you more about summer in Russia? Maybe Mum has old photos from when she was a child.
What did she enjoy most as a child during the summer?

Are you curious about winter in Russia?
This is very special, Oliver: The winter in some parts of Russia is so cold,
that you have to wear a big winter coat, covering your body from chin to toes!
This is protecting you from the incredibly cold temperatures.
Sometimes even the eyelashes - the small hair around your eyelids - can freeze!
In the cities, the children go ice-skating or they take their sledge and enjoy a ride.
And in the mountain area, you have many popular skiing regions,
where people enjoy catching snowflakes and building snowmen.
Can Mum tell you more about her winter experiences when she was a child?
Anyone's stomach will start to rumble
after playing sports, right?
Time to eat! What do you think
Russians like to eat?
Russians love music, dancing, stories and plays.
A very popular folk song is Kalinka!
It is about the snowball berry and it increases in tempo each time it is sung. Why don't you ask Mum to sing it to you?

Many, many years ago Mum came into this world. This was a long time before you were born, Oliver! Mum was born as you were, but she was not born in Switzerland, where you live now.
Mum was born in Russia, which is a different country. Let's share more about this
wonderful place because, in a way, a part of you also comes from Russia.

Here you can see a map of the world, Oliver. Can you find the flag with a white cross on red background? Very good!
This is where you are right now – in Switzerland!
The Russian flag has a white, a blue and a red stripe on it.

How far away is Russia? With a car, you need around 25 hours!
This is like going to bed, sleeping a full night and being awake one full day.
Wow… This is very, very long.
You would have to take long breaks during the drive to eat, sleep and play, Oliver!

This is considered to be a national sport and very famous.

in the time of the Russian czar,

and every time you will find another, smaller doll inside.
What an incredible invention!
The dolls are beautiful, fun and exciting.
The capital of Russia is Moscow! It is the largest city in the country.
The central square of Moscow is the Red Square, where all major streets of the city originate. Here you can find the colourful St. Basil's Cathedral with its beautiful and typical onion domes. How many onions can you count Oliver?
And very close you can find the heaviest and largest bell in the world today! The Tsar Bell has never been in use and rung. Isn‘t this incredible?
